Flower petal murals, crop circle mandalas, Tibetan monk-made sand mandalas, all ephemeral, have always caught my interest...
It is hard to imagine the abundance of flower petals that must be necessary to create these street murals in Spoleto, Italia - especially on a chilly, snowing day such as today. As with lava, I have not experienced a flower petal mural yet, but hope to.
Crop circles are a marvel as well - what a presence of mind (and tractor?) it must take to create the design you desire without benefit of a top view.
I have also always marvelled at the internal stregnth and peace it must take to create an intricate sand mandala, only to sweep it away at the end, symbolic of the impermanence of things. For more on mandalas in general, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandala
These three ephemeral types of murals make me wonder what spiritual similarities may exist between Italian flower mural "painters," farmers all over the world and the Tibetan monks who make and then destroy their sand mandalas as part of a ritual...
I suppose the worldwide lesson is really something along the lines of - carpe diem, you can't take it with you...
